LAPAROSCOPIC INTRAPERITONEAL ONLAY MESH REPAIR (IPOM+) FOR LARGE OBSTRUCTED VENTRAL INCISIONAL ENTEROCELE – CASE REPORT WITH REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Abstract

Laparoscopic bridging repairs of ventral herniae have now been largely replaced by suture closure followed by prosthesis. This is because the later are better biomechanically and functionally than the former. Though initially performed for relatively smaller defects, these are now performed for all defects regardless of their lengths. This has been greatly facilitated by the development of barbed sutures. The authors, herein, present the case of a 94 years old women who presented with small bowel obstruction. Examination and imaging revealed a large obstructed ventral incisional hernia. She underwent a totally laparoscopic repair of the same and had an uneventful postoperative recovery.
